A true French horn!
In France during the 1930’s-1980’s the main horns played were these Selmer double horns, first the Vuillermoz model then the Thevet model. This horn is from the 1960’s and in nice condition. It’s a compensating double horn with 3 pistons and a rotor Bb/F change valve, and has an ascending 3rd which raises the horn up to C/G instead of the normal descending down to G/D. This ascending 3rd valve is essentially a built in descant horn to the double horn, giving shorter fingerings above the staff (high A is perfectly in tune!) and gives great alternate fingerings in the middle and low registers.
Very different instrument from what we play today but a great instrument for learning the sounds that the French composers were going for. Dr. James Hampson has used his Selmer Thevet model often and it works great for operas, musicals, and chamber music.
Comes with a L’olifant copy of a Selmer mouthpiece and a Courtois mouthpiece (German style).
