I bet you’ve never seen one of these!
Around 1930 Holton wanted to offer instruments that were more easily transportable so they designed the hatbox instruments. The hatbox mellophone was the more common instrument made, used in bands and the military. This hatbox horn from 1931 is a rarity, being a right-handed professional piston horn with detachable bell and leadpipe that fits cozily in a small hatbox case. It plays in F with an extender slide for Eb.
Amazing shape and a rare collector’s item!
