Before the Conn 8D was released in 1937 they had 3 main professional horns – the 6D double horn (piston thumb or the new rotor thumb in 1935), the 10D single Bb, or the 4D single F. In the 1930’s many players still preferred using a single horn and Conn continued to build high quality singles.
This 4D from 1934 is in amazing shape and plays very well. Comes with the original case and extra Eb main tuning slide. Once the double horn took over being the choice of the professionals the 4D was designated a student instrument and the quality declined, but these early 4Ds are some of the best playing single horns out there.
