A rare, ornate American made (possibly imported) natural horn by Emil Wulschner in Indianapolis, Indiana at the end of the 19th century. Many catalogs from American builders still included natural horns into the early 20th century, such as Lyon & Healy and even Conn! Two similar era American natural horns owned by Richard Seraphinoff are being donated to a museum.

Certain mouthpieces made the sleeve inside the F crook rattle, while others didn’t. There is no rattling on the crook itself, just the vibrations of certain mouthpieces cause the sleeve to buzz. Quite odd! Something we’ve never seen before. But if it’s an issue with your mouthpiece it should be an easy fix.

Tenon on F crook could be adjusted to fit into the coupler better. Tenons wear over time.

Eb crook was built a little short so can’t get A=440. A simple and cheaper solution is to get tuning bits made by Richard Seraphinoff or Miles O’Malley. Other solutions are getting a slide extender, a longer main tuning slide, or a new correct length Eb crook made.

Crooks: G, F, Eb, coupler for E and D at A=440 all made by Lowell Greer. Takes a narrow shank mouthpiece.

If one wanted to play in more keys, builders such as Richard Seraphinoff and Miles O’Malley could make the remaining crooks/couplers.
