Here we have an amazing horn that represents the French sound of the mid-20th century. This Selmer Vuillermoz model was completed on June 30th, 1950 at the Selmer factory in Paris, and sold to Henry Vandenbulcke on July 5th, 1950. Vandenbulcke played in the Monte Carlo Opera and in Luxembourg among other places. Lucien Thevet, Georges Barboteu, and many others became famous on this model.

The Vuillermoz model was one of the first double horns made in France in the early 1930’s when Selmer took over production of Raoux instruments. It is a compensating double with an ascending 3rd. The 3rd valve, instead of descending a step and a half, ascends a whole step to either G or C alto horn. This system gives a built-in “descant horn” into the instrument, making the high range much more secure with lots of options for alternate fingerings in the middle and lower registers. Dr. James Hampson prefers this ascending system and performs on many horns with it.

Comes with an original Selmer Vuillermoz model mouthpiece. Horn takes a narrow shank mouthpiece.
