Crème de la crème!

This Raoux Millereau is one of the most sought after horns that ever existed, made famous to modern horn players in the early 20th century by Dennis Brain. In immaculate condition for its age. Has original F & A crooks (common piston horn crooks of the late 19th and early 20th centuries), the rest made by Richard Seraphinoff. Had a recent valve job so the pistons are amazing!

In 2019 Stefan Dohr performed the Britten Serenade during the Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival on this Raoux Millereau as a natural horn. Previously owned by a member of the London Philharmonic Orchestra.

From the current owner:

“I bought the Raoux Millereau in about 1998 when I was in England visiting family. It was owned by a former LPO horn player who had stopped playing.

The garland has the address as rue d’Angoulême 66, Millereau’s address from 1879 to 1911. Millereau bought the Raoux patterns, etc. from Labbaye in 1878. Also on the garland is the name of A.W. Gilmer, 30-31 Paradise St. Birmingham. Gilmer was a music dealer and British agent for Millereau. This was his address from 1861-1887. I’m confident that the horn is from no later than the 1880s.

Paul Navarro added an ingenious screw to keep the sauterelle solidly in place. In addition to original crooks in F and A, Rick Seraphinoff made crooks using the exact bend as the original crooks for Bb (2 crooks), A, Ab, G, F, E, and Eb. He also made a coupler to use the F crook for D, which I prefer over a D crook. The valves had never been replated when I bought the horn, and I had Anderson in Elkhart do a custom valve job. The corpus in is a thick leather Giardinelli gig bag that has a wooden disc built into the bell section to give it better protection. I also have a “sample” case with velvet crook “envelopes” custom sewn by the late Susie Greer. There are no dents on the horn and it plays beautifully.

In 2019, Stefan Dohr used it for the Prologue and Epilogue of the Britten Serenade when he was in Santa Fe with the Festival.”
