Lowell Greer had a fascination with converting low F single horns into high F descant horns, many times giving these instruments a new life playing the high tessitura baroque and classical repertoire. This is a 4 valve high F horn with the thumb valve being a Bb extension to add onto the low range of the limited high F horn. The horn was originally a King single F valve section, but has a Lawson Ambronze flare. Plays quite well!
This horn sits in Bb, and when the thumb is activated puts the horn into high F. Lowell did this intentionally for those players used to double descant or triple horns where the thumb activates the high F side.
