Here in the States the idea of the compensating double has been marred by the terrible playing Anborg compensating doubles from Italy that flooded the market many years ago, which is sad because a professional compensating double can be an absolute gem! This Hans Hoyer is indeed a gem.
The added 5th valve really comes in handy. It can be used as either a stopping valve or an A/E transposing valve. Compensating doubles often weigh less than a full double because of less tubing on the instrument, but the added 5th valve make the weight comparable.
