Alexander 90 Single Bb Owned by Barry Benjamin

Alexander horns are the most played horn on the planet, and you see why with this amazing 4 valve single Bb!

This horn was owned by Barry Benjamin of the Dorian Wind Quintet. It was made in the 1950’s-60’s and is in phenomenal shape. Rotors are great and it plays very well. Barry put a German Silver (alloy of nickel silver) bell onto the horn to enhance the playing abilities of it.

The rotor tap on the thumb valve is quite interesting and clever. With the full length of the slide you can get an in-tune F harmonic series using thumb and 3. Great for getting G’s, F#, low C and B in tune. Also makes low Bb a note. Alan Civil used this setup (see last photo). Thumb can also be used as an A valve or a stopping valve.

An F extension is common for these horns for people wanting an extended low register and more in-tune options for low G, F#, C, and B. Also adds a little more weight to the horn to fit better as a section horn.
